The information we collect and how we use it

The Sonoptic application and associated Bin Software services may collect the following types of information:

  • Anonymous usage data – With your permission, we will collect basic anonymous data about the features you use in the Sonoptic application. We use this information to refine and improve future versions. We take steps to ensure that no personally identifiable information is included in this data. If you would like to avoid sending us the data, you may turn this feature off in the Settings section of the devices we support.

  • Email address or similar information you directly provide – When you provide your email address to us for product information and updates, we may retain that email address in order to contact you. We will not share this email address with any third party, except for those directly associated with sending and managing our mail communications. We will only use it to contact you with information and updates about Sonoptic. You may contact us at any time to remove yourself from future communications about the product.

  • Feedback through the application – You can initiate feedback to us through the Sonoptic application. When you choose to do so, the following information may be transmitted to us along with the information you choose to provide in your description: Sonoptic application version, operating system version, device model, and carrier. We may use third-party services for this process of collecting feedback. You may choose to provide an email name, but this is optional.

  • Your direct communications – When you send email or other communications to Bin Software or through Sonoptic’s in-app feedback mechanism, we may retain those communications in order to process your inquiries, respond to your requests and improve our services. When you send and receive feedback messages to or from one of our services, we may collect and maintain the information you associate with those messages, such as the phone number, your email address, details about your device, your operating system, the wireless carrier associated with the phone number, the content of the message, and the date and time of the transaction. We may use your email address to communicate with you about our services.

  • Application crash information – With your permission, the Sonoptic application may forward basic anonymous data about the conditions at the point of a severe failure or application crash. We use this information to diagnose problems, improve future versions, and watch for failure trends. We may use third-party services for this facility. We take steps to ensure that no personally identifiable information is included in this data. You can always avoid sending us such anonymous data. Each time such a failure occurs, you will be presented with an option to either send or opt out.

  • Cookies – When you visit the Sonoptic product site or related Bin Software services, we may send one or more cookies to your computer or other device. We use cookies to improve the quality of our service, including for storing user preferences and analyzing user trends.

  • Log information – When you access Sonoptic or related Bin Software services via a browser or the Sonoptic application, our servers automatically record certain information. These server logs may include information such as your web request, your interaction with a service, Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser or your account.

  • Trend analysis – We may combine the information you submit with information from other Sonoptic services or third parties in order to provide you with a better experience and to improve the quality of our services. For certain services, we may give you the opportunity to opt out of combining such information.

  • Third-party services – Sonoptic may utilize certain third-party services to enable certain functionality. Information collected by the third party application provider is governed by their privacy policies. See “Information sharing and third-party services” for specific information on those services, as well as links to their privacy policies.

If we use this information in a manner different than the purpose for which it was collected, then we will ask for your consent prior to such use. We will also maintain this privacy statement to ensure that it clearly reflects any and all changes in our usage policy.

We will not collect any personal information or contact you if we do have reason to believe that you are under the age of 13, and you should not use Sonoptic or its information collection if you are under that age. If we have reason to believe you are under the appropriate age, we will terminate any interaction and remove any information we may have. An exception to this policy is that if we have reason to believe that someone is attempting to use your account improperly (for example, by multiple, failed attempts to enter a user name or password), we may contact you by email to alert you to the problem and/or alert you by email that we have frozen your account until you assist us to correct the problem, by entering a new user name and/or new password or taking other protective measures.

Sonoptic and Bin Software processes personal information on our servers in the United States of America and in other countries. In some cases, we process personal information outside your own country.

Information sharing and third-party services

Except as described in this privacy statement, we won’t disclose your personal information to a third party without your consent. We do not sell any of the information we collect. The following are the circumstances under which we may disclose your information:

  1. When required by law or to respond to legal process.
  2. To combat fraud directly impacting Bin Software Co. or its subsidiaries, or to enforce the applicable Terms of Service for a Bin Software product.
  3. To protect against harm to the rights, property or safety of Bin Software, its users, its employees or the public as required or permitted by law.
  4. To enable specific services or features within the Sonoptic application or web site. To be very explicit, Sonoptic shares personal information with other companies or individuals outside of Bin Software in only the following ways:

    • Google Analytics – The Sonoptic web site uses Google Analytics to better understand how users interact with the information presented there. We comply in all ways with Google’s usage requirements. You can learn more about how Google uses data when a partner like Sonoptic utilizes their services by reviewing their privacy information here, or at any other URL Google may provide on this topic.
    • HockeyApp – The Sonoptic application uses the HockeyApp service to assist us with collection of crash information. We comply in all ways with HockeyApp’s usage requirements. If and when a crash occurs within Sonoptic, you can opt out of all transmission of information to us—and to the HockeyApp service—by choosing “No” on the dialog box we present to you. You can learn more about HockeyApp’s information handling and privacy policies here.
    • Flurry – The Sonoptic application and web site may use the "restricted version" of Flurry to assist us with anonymous instrumentation of in-app usage of certain features. In addition to the anonymous, feature-specific information, the Flurry service may record information such as: the Flurry agent version, platform, SDK version, timestamp, API key, application version, device identifier, iOS Identifier for Advertising, iOS Identifier for Vendors, International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), Model, manufacture and OS version of device, session start/stop time, device uptime, locale, etc. You can opt out of all of Sonoptic’s instrumentation—including all use of the Flurry service—from the device Settings panel, under "Sonoptic". We comply with Flurry’s usage requirements, and you can learn more about this service’s information handling and privacy policies—including the full list of any information collected—here.
    • Apptentive – The Sonoptic application uses the Apptentive service to allow you to communicate issues, feedback or questions to us. You have control over this communication, and opt not to use it. We comply with Apptentive’s usage requirements, and you can learn more about this service’s information handling and privacy policies here.

If Bin Software becomes involved in a merger, acquisition, or any form of sale of some or all of its assets, we will ensure the confidentiality of any personal information involved in such transactions and provide notice before personal information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Protecting your information

Bin Software is committed to protecting the security of your personal information. We use a variety of security technologies and procedures to help protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. These include internal reviews of our data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures, including encryption and physical security measures to guard against unauthorized access to systems where we collect and store personal data.

Accessing and updating your personal information

Some Sonoptic services may – now or in feature – give you the option to enter and update personal information to provide additional customization or features such as customizing or posting content, setting display preferences, or subscribing to newsletters or other notifications. To help prevent others from viewing your personal information, you first will be required to sign in. If you have supplied us with an email address, you may elect not to receive further communication from us by notifying us of your desire to “unsubscribe and remove”. Please allow up to ten days to be removed from the Sonoptic system. Doing so is unrelated to your App Store registration, and you may still receive Sonoptic-related communications through that path until you remove the application from your device.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We will occasionally update our privacy statements to reflect customer feedback and changes in our services. When we post changes to a statement, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top of the statement. If there are material changes to the statement or in how Sonoptic or Bin Software will use your personal information, we will notify you either by prominently posting a notice of such changes before they take effect or by directly sending you a notification. We encourage you to periodically review the privacy statements for Sonoptic to understand how Bin Software is protecting your information.
